Overview:

Our Signature four course Sunset Dinner Cruise offers guests an exquisite culinary experience on the serene waters of Darwin Harbour. This exclusive cruise features a carefully curated menu showcasing fine local cuisines, crafted by our chefs using the freshest regional ingredients, and offering you an authentic Taste of the Top End.

Cruising 7 nights a week through the dry season, we begin boarding at 5pm and return at around 8pm.

ITINERARY:

Kakadu and Katherine National Park, as well as the surrounding area, can be explored in the comfort of a fully guided tour, showcasing the best of culture and scenery. Discover the oldest and best preserved Aboriginal rock art in the world, spot some prehistoric reptiles (crocodiles) as we cruise the river system by boat, and experience local culture, stories, and traditions. We’ll explore monsoon forests, spectacular escarpment country, and the amazing biodiversity of Kakadu’s landscapes, home to many endemic species of flora and fauna. Enjoy comfortable air-conditioned accommodations in Kakadu and Katherine.

Day 1: Darwin – Kakadu National Park

We depart from Darwin and head towards the wetlands region known as WakWak, an hour outside of Darwin, where the top end’s magnificent scenery is on display. We have the chance to spot a vast range of Top End birdlife and apex predators such as crocodiles. Our journey continues as we wind our way into Kakadu National Park, where we check into our local accommodation and continue to take in the sights and sounds of nature, 300 kms east of Darwin. We take some time to soak in the landscape and wildlife of the park at the Bowali Visitor Centre before heading to the East Alligator region, the most north-eastern point of Kakadu, for a cultural tour of a lifetime. The group will join the Guluyambi Cultural Cruise down the East Alligator River on the border of Kakadu and Arnhem Land to experience the creation stories of the area, observe majestic birdlife, and, of course, hope to see crocodiles. In this same area we’ll visit Ubirr Rock, home to one of the best-preserved collections of Aboriginal Rock Art in the world, and climb up high for a sunset that will take your breath away. We head back to our accommodation for dinner. Meals: Lunch, Dinner. Accom: Mercure Kakadu Crocodile Hotel, options include twin, double, single rooms with ensuite bathrooms. Driving Distance: 420km. Hike Distance and Grading: 1km loop Grade 2-3.

Day 2: Kakadu National Park

Today is a day of perusing the art galleries and cultural centres that portray the stories of former and present clan groups of the north and south of Kakadu, as well as into Arnhem Land. We will journey on a guided walk through the Burrungkuy (Nourlangie) art site areas, enjoying any combination of places, including Kunwarddewardde Lookout, Anbangbang Billabong, Nawurlandja, and—should the group feel like an extra bit of walking—there is also potential for Naguluwurr art site. Offering unmatched vistas of escarpments, sweeping stone country, savannah woodlands, lowlands and endless floodplains and wetlands, take your time to enjoy the different creation stories and artworks in the various galleries, hear stories about local groups and traditions as well as commentary on the plant and wildlife you see before you. After an amazing sunset on day two of your adventure, we head back to our accommodation for our evening meal and restful sleep. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner. Accom: Mercure Kakadu Crocodile Hotel, options include twin, double, single rooms with ensuite bathrooms. Driving Distance: 150km. Hike Distance and Grading: 1km grade 2.

Day 3: Kakadu – Katherine

After a leisurely morning, we get ready to hit the road southwest toward our next amazing destinations of Katherine and Nitmiluk. The road south winds its way through vistas showcasing the radiant earthy colours of the typical Northern Australian bush. Keep a lookout for wildlife including the Red Tailed Black Cockatoo, Agile Wallabies, wild horses and buffalo.

Heading through the historical township of Pine Creek we stop to stretch our legs and enjoy an array of refreshments available to those who are keen, including homemade ice cream—extremely popular with Top End locals. Enjoy stories of the Overland Telegraph construction, leading to the Pine Creek gold rush era of the 1870s. We also have the option of visiting the Pine Creek Museum, a National Trust building and the oldest prefabricated corrugated iron building in Australia.

After checking in to our Katherine accommodation, we head out to the wonderful Nitmiluk National Park and Katherine Gorge, where we enjoy the 2-hour NitNit Dreaming Two Gorge Cruise, a leisurely snapshot into the history and stories behind this beautiful area. This cruise guides you down the middle of 70m sheer rock walls with wildlife hiding around every corner. An area rich in creation stories, you will marvel at your surroundings and the relaxed atmosphere of the cruise. 

After your cruise, we head back to Katherine where we can settle in and relax in our comfortable accommodation, enjoying local hospitality in readiness for our fourth and final day of exploring the region.

Day 4: Katherine – Darwin

This morning we make the most of the Katherine area, visiting the Hot Springs for a dip and float, followed by a stop in afterwards at the Top Didj Gallery where you will have the chance to view art created by locals, and experience the bush tucker and bush medicine gardens. It’s now time to continue our journey south, making our way to the beautiful Edith Falls for further relaxation in picture-perfect Top End surroundings with a picnic lunch, a huge plunge pool beneath a cascading waterfall, and a welcome chance to cool off! 

This evening, upon your return to Darwin fully relaxed and refreshed after your cool swim, we’ll have you back in Darwin in time for you to meander through the famous Mindil Markets or spend a relaxing night at your accommodation reflecting on all the adventures you’ve had and new friends you’ve made.

WEATHER:

The weather in the Top End of the Northern Territory can fluctuate and be extreme. It is not unheard of for temperatures to reach over 40+ degrees Celsius with high humidity in the dry season and temperatures can drop dramatically in the evening. Please ensure you have checked the average temperatures for the time of year you are travelling and have packed adequate clothing. In the event of rain or inclement weather, your experience will still go ahead, unless contacted by the provider.

IMPORTANT NOTES:

• Mandatory passenger details are required at the time of booking: date of birth, food allergies and contact phone number.
• While we endeavour to cater to most dietary needs, passengers must advise dietary requirements to their booking agent at the time of booking. As we are venturing to remote areas we are very limited in what we can source once the tour departs, therefore prior notice is required.
• The tour operator must be notified of any known medical conditions at the time of booking. This is a very physical tour and requires a moderate to level of fitness and mobility.
• A minimum moderate to advanced level of fitness is required to complete the walks. Length of walks will be between 1km to 2km each day, often over steep rocky sections and in direct sunlight and high humidity. An approximate 4km walk is included in this tour. Embarking on walks will be at the guide’s discretion to ensure the safety of guests. Therefore a medium/high level of fitness is required and a doctor’s certificate is required for people over 70 years (30 days prior to travel).
• Children aged between 8 to 17 years old must be accompanied by an adult or legal guardian at all times. Not suitable for infants or children 7 years and under, due to safety requirements and the level of fitness required to complete the walks.
• Limited storage space on our vehicle, baggage kept to 1 x 15kg travel bag, 1 x 5kg day bag. Not suitable for mobility-impaired travellers, wheelchairs, walkers or strollers.
• Itineraries may vary to adapt to seasonal changes and occasionally sites in the parks close or do not allow swimming. As safety is our top priority we plan accordingly to ensure our guests have the most fun and best experience possible while on tour. 
• Guests are asked to participate in the preparation of meals, clean up, and vehicle unpacking/loading, so everyone can relax together after a long day of touring. It’s also a great way to get to know and connect with your fellow travellers.

Kakadu Katherine Litchfield 4WD Adventure (Camping) 5 Day – Safari Tent from Darwin – $1950.00 Per Person (accommodated option available at extra cost)

This Safari Twin Share Tent fare option is a permanent safari tent, sleeping in twin shared single beds, mattress, pillow, linen supplied, unpowered site, protected from the elements. Day 1: Darwin – Kakadu National Park

Start your adventure by departing from Darwin and heading out to the Wetlands Region where the magnificent scenery of the top end puts on a show. Along the way, we have ample opportunity to spot a huge range of Top End birdlife, not to mention some fresh and salty apex predators… crocodiles! 

We journey on to Kakadu National Park where our home for the next two nights in Jabiru awaits. The Bowali Visitor Centre offers a beautiful introduction to the Park’s landscape and wildlife and we take time to soak it in, before checking into our local accommodation. After some relaxation, we journey northeast to *Cahills Crossing on the border of Kakadu and Arnhem Land. We will visit one of the best-preserved collections of Aboriginal rock art in the world at Ubirr rock upon sunset. This incredibly significant site showcases many styles of rock art and allows us to climb up high for a sunset that will blow you away looking out over the Nadab Floodplain. After a big day, we head back to our cozy private camp and prepare dinner together, enjoying an evening with our fellow travellers. Meals: Lunch, Dinner. Camping: Private Jabiru Campsite – Permanent Tents (communal bathroom facilities). Driving Distance: 420km. Hike Distance and Grading: 1km loop Grade 2-3.

Day 2: Jim Jim Falls – Plunge Pools – Jabiru Return

We rise and shine early on day 2 and make our way south into Kakadu National Park.

Today we’ll spend the day soaking up the spectacular natural beauty of the area, hiking through lush monsoon rainforests, and swimming in pristine plunge pools and waterfalls surrounded by steep escarpments and rocky cliffs.

We aim to visit one or more of the available waterfalls depending on the group’s physical ability to complete the hike(s). This can include any of Motor Car Falls, Jim Jim Falls, Twin Falls or Moline Rockhole. There are many factors affecting accessibility although your guide will ensure you get the best experience possible. 

Time permitting, we stop at Warradjan Cultural Centre and gallery where we explore the stories of the artefacts that the traditional owners wish to share with visitors. Feel free to discuss the evolving social, cultural and environmental changes to the area over time as we then make our way back to camp for a hearty dinner and a well-earned rest.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner. Camping: Private Jabiru Campsite – Permanent Tents (communal bathroom facilities). Driving Distance: Minimum 150km depending on waterfall access. Please note this includes a minimum of 40kms offroad on each journey. Hike Distance and Grading:  1.5km – 4km & up to Grade 5/6.

Day 3: Kakadu – Katherine

This morning we discover Burrungkuy (Nourlangie) rock art, Kunwarddewardde Lookout and have the potential to explore the surrounding areas of Nawurlandja Lookout and Anbangbang Billabong. Burrungkuy (Nourlangie) Rock features incredible Aboriginal rock art and Dreamtime stories of the Bininj people. Another 4WD track awaits us as we travel south and enjoy a picnic lunch at the plunge pool of Barramundi Gorge (Maguk) Waterfall, one of the most picturesque and pristine waterfalls in Kakadu. Please note at least a moderate to high level of fitness and agility is required here with flat pathways combined with rocky crossings leading you to the plunge pool through the monsoon forest. After our 2km walk, swim and lunch, we head south through Kakadu National Park towards our private safari campsite in Katherine where we will be able to relax under the stars and enjoy the evening’s hospitality around the campfire.  Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner. Camping: Private Katherine Campsite – Permanent Tents (communal bathroom facilities). Driving Distance:  420km. Hike Distance and Grading: 1.5km Grade 3.

Day 4: Katherine – Nitmiluk National Park

It’s an early start today to reach Nitmiluk National Park and board your 2 hour NitNit Katherine Gorge boat cruise – an absolute must-do in the Top End. This cruise guides you down the middle of 70m sheer rock walls with wildlife hiding around every corner. An area rich in creation stories you will marvel at your surroundings and the relaxed atmosphere of the cruise. If you are also interested in doing a scenic helicopter flight after the cruise there are a range of options available to take in the spectacular views of Nitmiluk and Katherine Gorge. It’s now time to continue our journey, making our way to the beautiful Edith Falls for further relaxation in picture-perfect Top End surroundings with a picnic lunch, a huge plunge pool beneath a cascading waterfall, and a welcome chance to cool off! 

After your day of culture, walks and swims we head back to our private campsite for a stunning sunset and evening stargazing.

Meals: breakfast, lunch, dinner. Camping: Private Katherine Campsite – Permanent Tents (communal bathroom facilities). Options: Scenic helicopter flights. Driving Distance: 470km. Hike Distance and Grading: 2km Grade 2-4 depending on the walk embarked on. The main pool (when open) is a short walk with low grades. Upper pools require a reasonably steep climb and descent, and at least a moderate level of fitness and agility.

Day 5: Katherine – Litchfield – Darwin

​Our adventure is not yet complete as we now head into Litchfield National Park on our way back to Darwin for the end of our fifth day.

Leaving Katherine we travel north towards the world-class Litchfield National Park, surrounded by thick pockets of tropical rainforest, offering a cool escape from the heat of the Top End.​ 

View the monolithic Magnetic Termite Mounds and then have an opportunity to cool in Litchfield’s beautiful natural plunge pools like Buley Rockholes or Wangi Falls. Visit a thundering waterfall like Florence Falls or Tolmer Falls and marvel at the sheer beauty carved out among the rocky escarpment. Fully relaxed and rejuvenated after your fifth day of exploration and adventure, relax back in comfort as your guide delivers you back to Darwin for a well-earned rest. Meals: Breakfast, lunch. Accom: N/A. Driving Distance: 470 km. Walking Distance: 1km – 2km.

• While we endeavour to cater to most dietary needs, passengers must advise dietary requirements to their booking agent at the time of booking. As we are venturing to remote areas we are very limited in what we can source once the tour departs, therefore prior notice is required.
• The tour operator must be notified of any known medical conditions at the time of booking. This is a very physical tour and requires a moderate level of fitness and mobility.
• A minimum moderate to advanced level of fitness is required to complete the walks. The length of walks will be between 2km to 4km each day, often over steep rocky sections and in direct sunlight and high humidity. An approximate 9-11km walk is included in this tour. Embarking on walks will be at the guide’s discretion to ensure the safety of guests. Therefore a medium/high level of fitness is required and a doctor’s certificate is required for people over 70 years (30 days prior to travel).
• Children aged between 8 to 17 years old must be accompanied by an adult or legal guardian at all times. Not suitable for infants or children 7 years and under, due to safety requirements and the level of fitness required to complete the walk.
• Limited storage space in our vehicles. Baggage must be kept to 1 x 15kg travel bag, 1 x 5kg day bag. Not suitable for mobility-impaired travellers, wheelchairs, walkers or strollers.
• Itineraries may vary to adapt to seasonal changes and occasionally sites in the parks close or do not allow swimming. As safety is our top priority we plan accordingly to ensure our guests have the most fun and best experience possible while on tour. 
• Guests are asked to participate in the preparation of meals, clean up and vehicle unpacking/loading, so everyone can relax together after a long day of touring. It’s also a great way to get to know and connect with your fellow travellers.

ITINERARY:

Journey with us to the Litchfield National Park, home to some of Australia’s most spectacular and stunning waterfalls. Enjoy the breathtaking views, iconic magnetic termite mounds and crystal clear pools. Guests will have the opportunity to journey through some of Australia’s most diverse landscapes, sandstone pillars, panoramic floodplain views, picturesque waterfalls, and bustling plant and animal life. There are several bushland walking tracks with the best lookout views the Litchfield National Park has to offer.

Allow us to show you one of our favourite places on earth… Litchfield National Park.  Just over an hour’s drive from the city. We leave Darwin and make our way towards the world-class Litchfield National Park surrounded by thick pockets of tropical rainforest, it offers cool respite from the Top End heat. 

Stopping along the way you’ll have an opportunity to jump on the famous Jumping Crocodile Cruise (optional extra) on the Adelaide River, alternatively we visit the Fogg Dam Conservation Centre. The traditional lands of the Limilngan-Wulna people (who are active in the reserve’s management) are one of the most spectacular places to explore the diverse wildlife of the Top End, home to numerous species of birds, turtles, water pythons and of course the iconic Saltwater Crocodile.

We’ll visit some incredible monolithic Magnetic Termite Mounds and then have an opportunity to cool off in one of Litchfield’s beautiful natural plunge pools like Buley Rockholes or Wangi Falls. 

Visit a thundering waterfall like Florence Falls or Tolmer Falls and marvel at the sheer beauty carved out amongst the rocky escarpment. Fully relaxed and rejuvenated after a day in the stunning tropical national park we make our way back to Darwin.  Meals: n/a, Driving Distance: 450km, Walking Distance: 1km.

WEATHER:

The weather in the Northern Territory can fluctuate and be extreme. It is not unheard of for temperatures to reach over 40+ degrees Celsius in the dry season and in the evening the temperature drops dramatically. Please ensure you have checked the average temperatures for the time of year you are travelling and have packed adequate clothing. In the event of rain or inclement weather, your experience will still go ahead, unless contacted by the provider.

Buggy Tours

Join your guide in one of our 5-seater all-terrain vehicles (ATV) as you travel along bush tracks through the cattle property viewing the incredible diversity of flora and fauna that call Finniss River Station their home. The ATV’s cause minimal disturbance to the wildlife and enable you to feel completely immersed in your surroundings. Appreciate the wildlife, rich history and pastoral practices as you explore the paper bark forests, floodplains, coastline, savannah woodlands and rainforests.

Walk About Safaris

Tread a path amongst the five ecosystems with abundant opportunities to photograph and observe wildlife in their natural habitat. Walking trails are tailored to suit all abilities with tours being conducted in the cool early morning or late afternoons. The Lodge offers a number of short, leisurely walks under shaded canopy’s and for the more adventurous, half or full day treks through more remote and untouched areas of the property.

A truly unique station experience, Cows and Canapes is a perfect way to end the day. Sip sundowners in an open sided buggy or jump out and take a selfie with the curious Brahman cattle that surround you. Led by our local guides learn about the family history and hear their stories.

Birds of Finniss River Region

For the enthusiasts that love birding/twitching.

The Finniss River floodplain/coastal supports very large aggregations of waterbirds, including more than 1% of the world’s populations of Magpie Geese and Pied Herons, and high densities of many other waterbird species. The floodplain supports important breeding activity by Magpie Geese and other waterbirds, and three large waterbird breeding colonies are located in paperbark swamps on the floodplain. Five threatened birds are reported in this region.

This site has been nominated as a national High Conservation Value Aquatic Ecosystem.

Airboat Adventures

Guests staying three or more nights* have an inclusive 50-minute shared airboat experience along a spectacular stretch of the Finniss River floodplain. Creating opportunities to spot resident crocodiles, barramundi, turtles, feral pigs, mingling water birds and native water lilies in the shallows at a slower pace.

Our private airboat is fitted with safety rails and hearing protection is provided. If you do not meet the three-night stay requirement but wish to have an on-site airboat experience, please enquire when booking your stay.
