Proposals for Papers, Posters and Displays close 30 April 2025.
Themes
Themes consist of a set of sessions (4-6) that address an overarching theme. Theme convenors are invited to submit rationales (300 words maximum) for proposed themes on any aspect of archaeology. Once the theme is accepted, theme convenors are free to solicit sessions for their theme. To enrich the academic program, each session needs to be convened by a minimum of two people from different countries. We can help people to find co-convenors from different countries.
Themes in previous WAC Congresses.
Sessions
Sessions consist of a set of papers (4-6 or 8-10) that address a central topic. Convenors are invited to submit rationales (300 words maximum) for proposed sessions on any aspect of archaeology. Please provide an indication of the proposed format for your session (e.g. panel discussion, individual paper presentations, discussion time to follow each paper, combined discussion to follow the presentation of all papers, etc). We are also open to alternative session formats and contents.
Once accepted, the convenors will take responsibility for co-ordinating and chairing their session(s). To enrich the academic program, each session needs to be convened by two people from different countries. We can help people to find a co-convenor from a different country.
Workshops
Workshops provide a two-hour forum for sharing information and skills. Workshop convenors are responsible for organising their workshop and leading discussion.
Papers
Paper abstracts (200 words maximum) may be submitted on any aspect of archaeology. Abstracts may be submitted as part of identified sessions or individually.
Twenty minutes (15 minutes + 5 minutes discussion) will be allotted for each paper presentation. Question/discussion time for papers within convened sessions will be at the discretion of the respective session convenors—it may follow each paper or be contained to a combined discussion at the end. Papers in sessions created by the Academic sub-committee will follow the format of 15 minutes presentation + 5 minutes discussion, unless otherwise advised.
Posters
We invite scholars to submit posters, photographic presentations or other displays to be showcased throughout the Congress, in both real and virtual environments. Please contact us if you wish to display something other than a photograph or poster to ascertain its viability for the Congress venue.
Congress Language
The official language of the Congress is English. However, presentations can be in any language. Powerpoint presentations will need to include English subtitles.
