We are delighted to offer a series of bespoke one day tours to the World Heritage Listed Kakadu National Park for WAC-10 participants. Tours will have a mixture of full fee paying and subsidised seats available, and will shortly be available for booking.
Bookings for subsidised tours will open in early June. The number of subsidised places available will depend on the uptake of paid tours, as each paid booking includes a contribution toward the subsidy.
What to bring: While the buses taking you out to Kakadu are air-conditioned, there is likely to be high heat and humidity during the tours, so please make sure you come prepared. To visit the rock art at Ubirr and/or Burrungkuy, you will need to do some gentle walking. Many of these walking routes are also wheelchair accessible. Before leaving your accommodation, we suggest you double check and bring with you:
- Camera
- Sunglasses
- Sun hat
- Sunscreen
- Comfortable clothes
- Insect repellent
- Reusable, filled water bottle (bring at least 1.5L with you)
- Snacks (although a packed lunch will be provided, there will be limited opportunities to purchase additional food, so ensure you bring enough)
- Medications (again, there are limited health care facilities in Kakadu, so don’t forget any daily medications you might need)
All tours will depart at the stated time from the Leea Resort (next to Danala), and then 30 minutes later from Club Tropical. It is your responsibility to ensure you are at the correct hotel 15 minutes prior to the scheduled departure time. If you are not at the venue at the departure time you will be left behind.
There will be limited internet/wifi access in much of the region (except in Jabiru and Cooinda themselves), so it is best to assume that you will have limited connectivity for the day (all the better to enjoin the stunning scenery of Kakadu!). A tour desk will operate in the foyer at the main conference venue (Danala) from 9 am til 4 pm on Sunday 22 June, Monday 23 June and Tuesday 24 June where all your tour questions can be answered by knowledgeable people. Please swing by and have a chat with us.
Upon return to Darwin and hotels (i.e. Club Tropical and Leea Resort), tour buses will immediately take participants to the Deckchair Cinema to allow those who have pre-booked to attend the screening of ‘Ten Canoes’ with Director Rolf de Heer. Note there will NOT be time for you to get off and on again at your hotel, so if you are planning on going to Ten Canoes please stay on the bus.
Please note the prices given are the full costs; there will also be subsidised places at reduced rates on all tours (except the helicopter tour).
