Call For Sessions

Proposals for Sessions close 31 January 2025.

We are now calling for sessions for WAC-10. To propose a session as part of an established theme, please see the accepted themes and contact the conveners of that theme directly. To propose an independent session on any aspect of archaeology, material culture and/or cultural heritage, please complete the form below.

Sessions consist of a set of papers (4, 6, 8, 10 or 12) that address a central topic. Convenors are invited to submit rationales (300 words maximum) for proposed sessions on any aspect of archaeology. Please provide an indication of the proposed format of your session (e.g. panel discussion, individual paper presentations with discussion). We are also open to alternative session formats and contents. Session convenors should organise the order of presentations and the allocation of discussion time to suit their session. Sessions may be held in person (with all presenters physically present) or in hybrid mode (with a combination of in person and online presenters).

Sessions may be proposed as ‘closed’ sessions with all papers already organised and accepted by the session convenors, or as ‘open’ sessions to which anyone may submit a proposal for a paper. If you submit an ‘open’ session (either with no pre-selected papers, or only a few), the Academic committee will assist by forwarding independently submitted papers for consideration.

If you intend to submit a ‘closed’ session please submit the session proposal via the portal below, indicate that it is a closed session, and contact the Academic committee to submit the paper abstracts. Presentation slots that are vacated may be filled by the Academic committee.

Once accepted and complete, session convenors will take responsibility for co-ordinating and chairing their session(s). Some sessions will be focused on a particular country or region. Where possible, we ask session organisers to seek a co-convenor from a different country or Indigenous nation.  Our aim here is to broaden and enrich the academic program. We can help people to find co-convenors.
