Convenors: Chiamaka Mangut (USA) and Alemseged Beldados Aleho (Ethiopia)
This theme highlights innovative methodological approaches to reconstructing past environments and human adaptation strategies during the Pleistocene and the Holocene epochs. It welcomes progressive methodological approaches employed to understand climate change, resource utilisation, and reconstruction of past food systems. Colleagues are encouraged to share diverse techniques, including isotopic analysis, phytolith studies, pollen analysis, macro botanical remains, sedimentology, non-pollen palynomorphs (NPPs), and Zooarchaeology by Mass Spectrometry (ZooMS) as insights into paleoenvironmental conditions and human-environment interactions across temporal and spatial scales. This theme will create a platform for learning how, by integrating these diverse methodological approaches, researchers can generate comprehensive reconstructions of past environments and food systems, facilitating a deeper understanding of human-environment interactions throughout history.
