Duncan Wright is an Associate Professor at the Australian National University, specialising in the archaeological history of Torres Strait. An anthropological archaeologist his focus is on partnerships with First Nations communities, supporting present-day cultural and economic initiatives using a variety of historic (including archaeological) methods. Over time, work has increasingly engaged with the highly sensitive areas of past spirituality and ritual practices, now primary research interest. Currently, Duncan is involved in ARC-funded research that explores initiation and mortuary ceremonies related to a Culture Hero whose influence extends from New Guinea to Torres Strait. In addition to this, he is also pursuing projects in the Blue Mountains (NSW) and Slovakia.
