What you need to know when you arrive in cape town

On arrival in Cape Town

We will have representatives at Cape Town International Airport on Saturday 9 and Sunday 10 January 1999. Please look out for them on arrival – they will be able to assist you regarding your transport, baggage, etc.

If you are arriving before Saturday 9 January or after Sunday 10 January and have booked an airport transfer, you will be met personally at the airport. Please look out for our representative who will display your name prominently. If you are making your own transfer arrangements, and need to contact us when you arrive, please telephone Odette de Heer Kloots on Tel.: 762-8600.
Airport Transfers

Airport transfers can be arranged for you from Cape Town International Airport to the congress hotels at a cost of $20 per person per way. If you have already booked an airport transfer, this will be indicated on your invoice/statement enclosed in the package.

Specialized Tours is organising the airport transfers. Should you wish to change your booking, or if you would like to make a new booking, please contact Lucia on Tel.: +27 (21) 425-3259 or fax: +27 (21) 425-3329 or email: specialt@iafrica.com.

Please check whether we have booked you into the correct hotel on your invoice/statement. Those staying in the University Residence accommodation will be informed of the exact residence that they will be staying in closer to the time.

Visa and Yellow Fever Requirements

Please note that participants from many countries are required to have a visa to enter South Africa. No one will be let into the country if they are not in possession of the necessary travel documentation. Please note that you are also required to have a vaccination against Yellow Fever if you have been in certain African countries within 6 days prior to arrival in South Africa. Please consult your nearest South African Consulate/Embassy for further details. Should you need any further assistance, please feel free to contact Odette de Heer Kloots on Tel.: +27 (21) 762-8600 or Fax: +27 (21) 762-8606 or email: WAC4@globalconf.co.za.
Value Added Tax (VAT)

Please note that Value Added Tax (VAT) is included in most products and services. VAT on goods not consumed within South Africa can be claimed back from Customs on departure. Please be sure to keep all your slips!

Cape Town, like any other large city in the world, does have an element of crime. Please be careful with any cameras, jewellery, etc. that you may have on you when walking in the street. It is not advisable to wear your conference badges outside the conference venue if you are not on an official conference outing. Also, please try not to walk around outside after dark.
Traveller’s Cheques

South African banks accept traveller’s cheques in major international currencies during normal banking hours. Currency exchange for such traveller’s cheques will be available at the conference. Please note that not many shops and restaurants accept traveller’s cheques.

Cape Town is not a Malaria area. However, if you intend travelling in the Northern part of the country, it is advisable to consult with your travel agent as to whether it is necessary to take Malaria medication or not.

Please note that Specialized Tours are organising pre, post and day tours. Please contact Lucia on Tel.: +27 (21) 425-3259, Fax: +27 (21) 425-3329 or email: specialt@iafrica.com.
