<\/p>\n As the second statute of the World Archaeological Congress states, the Congress is based ‘on the explicit recognition of the historical and social role, and the political context, of archaeological enquiry, of archaeological organisations, and of archaeological interpretation’. The organisers of WAC-5 are deeply concerned about the possibility of war between the USA, Iraq (and associated countries). Therefore, WAC and WAR will be a focus of the Congress. We are addressing this in several ways, but particularly through a theme on Archaeology and War. We would like to invite people with knowledge in this area to contribute a paper for this.
