Become a WAC-8 Student Volunteer

The deadline for applications has passed, thank you to all who applied.

The World Archaeological Congress Student Committee (WAC) and WAC-8 Organizing Committee would like to invite students to apply for positions as Student Volunteers at the upcoming Congress in Kyoto, Japan.

We are seeking 18 student volunteers to help with the running of the conference, who will have their conference registration and lodging paid for in advance by the conference organizers. Volunteers will be expected to arrive early to the conference venue in Kyoto to participate in training and set-up the day before the conference begins.

What do volunteers do at the WAC Congress?

  • Set up meeting rooms
  • Register participants at the front desk
  • Help participants find local food and other resources
  • Assist with translation throughout the congress
  • Attend volunteer training the day before the congress begins
  • At WAC-6 and WAC-7, volunteers spent approximately one day of the four-day academic proceedings on their duties

How do I apply?

  • Submit basic information about your student status, language skills, and contact information through our form on the WAC website (this page!)
  • Proof that you have applied to present at WAC-8 (such as a copy of the registration email)
  • Be a current member of the World Archaeological Congress and provide your membership number (indicated on the receipt for your membership payment)
  • Submit a short statement about why you are attending the conference
    • We strongly prefer to fund students who have planned to give a presentation – we require that you answer whether you have applied to present at WAC-8, and briefly describe what your presentation will be about
    • Apply to give a presentation here: http://wac8.org/call-for-submissions/call-for-papers/
