The next WAC Inter-Congress, ‘Archaeology in Conflict’, will be held in Vienna 6th -10th April, 2010. This international conference addresses the multiple ways in which archaeology and cultural heritage interface with war.
What roles should scholars archaeologists and cultural heritage professionals play during times of war/armed conflict? What ethical, historical, and practical dilemmas are raised in times of armed conflict? How have people resolved these issues? How does this articulate with the illicit trade in antiquities, which constitutes up to 90% of international trade in archaeological assets? How can ours experiences of past conflicts guide our future behaviours?
